Frequently Asked Questions

What's this all about?

Escape rooms are fun experiences where you and your team of friends/family/colleagues/random strangers are "locked" (not really locked) in a room and you have to solve puzzles to escape against the clock.

Dave Escape Rooms is an attempt to bring the experience to people around the world who would like to experience something similar online. Our first adventure Rita's Cult Following was originally created for my friends to enjoy during the 2020 coronavirus lockdowns in the UK. They had fun playing it and so I thought you might too!

How does it work?

When you sign up for a game you'll be sent all the information you need to play. Our experiences are realtime adventures, you'll need to agree a time with your team to play together, but you can play any time you like! You will receive a full briefing before you start your adventure. You'll need to plan to spend around 75 minutes to complete the game!

How can I find my game code?

This will be emailed to the person who purchased the game. It is the same for all memebers of the team.

Can we take a break?

Sadly not - once the clock is ticking there's no turning back! If individual team members need to disappear for a while the mission can continue in the meantime!

Who can play?

We've had all kinds of people of all ages play already, and they had fun! If someone likes to be challenged, go on adventures and discover secrets, we think they'll like this!

How many people do I need to play?

You need at least three players joining the game on at least three connected devices to play.

Why do I need at least three players and connected devices?

Don't want to give anything away, but there are some tasks that require this number of players and connected devices to complete!

What technical equipment do I need?

You'll need a stable internet connection and a laptop/desktop computer running a modern browser. Ideally each player should join the game seperately on their own device. We've had the best results with Google Chrome, but other browsers work too. Someone on the team will need to arrange a meeting via Zoom/Google Meet/MS Teams so you can communicate while playing the room. Don't forget, you'll need at least an hour together to solve the mystery (Zoom might kick you out after 40 minutes, unless someone has an upgraded subscription).

Can I use a mobile/tablet device?

We'd strongly recommend a laptop/desktop device to play, as we've had mixed success with other devices. A phone is probably too small a screen to play effectively.

Can I buy this as a gift?

Absolutely! All you need to do is forward the gamecode/instructions you receive to the giftee. Then sit back in the knowledge you're an awesome person, who gives great gifts!

When does the game start?

You choose when your adventure starts. After reading the briefing when everyone is ready, you will be asked to click a button to start the clock and enter the room.

Do I need to speak English well?

There are some documents in English you'll need to read and understand while playing. As long as one person in the group understands English well, you should be fine!

Is it scary?

Definitely not - the world's scary enough as it is, right? We're aiming for exciting and exhilarating, not terrifying.

I didn't have fun / something went wrong with my game, what can I do?

We want everyone to have a great time playing the game. If anything went wrong with your game or you didn't enjoy it for some reason, please contact us and we will reschedule your game or offer you a refund!

What do I use the rubber duck for?

Not sure - keep hold of it, you never know, it might come in useful!
